About Goa

Nestled along the pristine shores of the Arabian Sea, Goa awaits you with its rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes. Once a Portuguese colony until 1961, the state boasts stunning 17th-century churches and lush tropical spice plantations that offer a glimpse into its colonial past. While Goa is renowned for its golden beaches, from the lively stretches at Baga and Palolem to the serene fishing villages like Agonda, it also beckons with a diverse array of experiences.

Travel Tips

Below are General Travel Tips that reflect the many travel sites on the Web and also offer advice from our Indian colleagues and others who have traveled in India. The best travel tip we can offer is to confer with friends and colleagues who are from India and plan to take full advantage of this opportunity to travel to India and explore areas beyond Goa, or at least beyond the conference hotel.

Voltage and Connectivity: India operates on a 240V/50Hz power supply with distinctive plug configurations (types C, D, and M). Hotels might provide dual-purpose plug setups, but it’s wise to carry plug adapters suited for the Indian model. Verify if your device charger supports the input supply of 240V/50Hz. For convenience, adapters can be found at Indian airports and at the conference site.

While many places, including hotels, airports, and the conference site offer Wi-Fi connectivity, it’s recommended to have a local SIM card for seamless communication and internet access. Airportsm and local telecom shops provide options for purchasing SIM cards with data plans. You can also look into getting an international SIM card or an e-sim card that covers India (if your device supports it).

Local Currency & Credit Cards

The Indian Rupee (INR) is the official currency. Keep in mind that 1 US Dollar is approximately 82 INR. Currency exchange services are available at airports, banks, and currency exchanges like Thomas Cook. Be prepared with copies of your passport/ticket for currency exchange, as some exchange points may require them. While most restaurants, businesses, and hotels accept VISA/Mastercard credit cards, note that using cards issued outside of India might incur a minor convenience charge. To avoid the convenience charge, you can also look into using a Forex card (VISA/Mastercard) with pre-loaded INR.

Transportation: Goa is well connected to all the major cities in the country by air. You can avail regular flights to Goa from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi and Chennai. However, the fastest way to reach Goa is to take a flight from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai which takes approximately an hour to reach. Availing a local Taxi service at the airport is the easiest way to reach the conference site from Goa International Airport or Manohar International Airport.
